Team Up America Merit Badges

Badge No. 1
YOUR STATE
Make some type of craft or display to represent your State flag, bird, flower, tree, nickname, slogan, or something that your state is well known for. Show it at your Junior Grange meeting and tell how you made it.
Badge No. 2
MILITARY
Interview a past or present member of the US Military. Write an article about his or her experiences and what you have learned about military life. If possible, try to have your article published in a community or Grange newspaper. (Or send it to your National Junior Director to read.)

FAVORITE SPORT
What is your favorite All-American Sport? Write a short story about the sport. Participate in any 2 sporting events. (Categories to consider, but not limited to: Tennis, Football, Baseball, Rodeo, Soccer, Volleyball, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Camping, Fishing, Boating, etc.) Can you think of a sport that your whole family can participate in together.

PRESIDENTS
Write a story, skit, or poem of 200 works or more about one of the United States Presidents.

US FLAG
How many times has the design for the United States Flag changed since Betsy Ross made the first Flag? Choose 5 of the designs and draw them, labeling them with the years they were used. You might also find it interesting to know which territories became states each time the design changed.

VISIT OFFICIALS
Arrange for a visit to the office of one of your city, county or township officials. Ask them to show you the offices, equipment, garages, voting equipment, etc., and explain what their responsibilities are as an official. Give a report at your Junior Grange meeting.

TRAVEL THE US
Make a drawing of the United States. If you were a train engineer, starting your train at your home town, draw in the route you would take your Junior Grange on a tour of the U.S. Mark 5 places you would stop, telling about what you would see at each of the stops. Share with your Junior Grange.

VIOLENCE AWARENESS
Participate in a Junior Grange Violence Awareness program. Make a list of 10 ways that you come into contact with some form of violence or disagreements in your life. Then write down one or more ways that you can help change each of those things. Ask a friend to help, try to make those changes in both your lives - at home, school or in your community.

NATIVE AMERICAN
Find out what Native American people lived in your area before 1776. Learn all you can bout them. Write a story about them and share it with your Junior Grange. You may include a picture or display.

SMOKING
Research the risks involved in smoking, including second hand smoke. Interview someone who has quit smoking or is trying to quit. Tell your Junior Grange 5 good reasons why you should not smoke.

DISASTER PLAN
Make a plan with your family to be prepared for a natural disaster that could happen in your area (earthquake, tornado, hurricane, flood, etc.) Contact your local Red Cross or emergency services for information on what your plan should cover; including flashlight, food, water, clothing, medical supplies, etc. Make a full report to your Junior Grange Leader.

HOST STATE
Learn about one aspect of this year's National Grange Host State and help present the Host State program for your Junior Grange.

EMERGENCY HELP
Research information on how to make a 911 or emergency help call. Be familiar with the information that the operator would be asking you if you needed to make a 911 call. (For example: your name and parents name, your street name and number, the phone number you are calling from, what is and where is the emergency) DO NOT CALL 911, just learn how, when and why you need to call 911 and share this information with your Junior Grange. Arrange for a visit to a police or fire station or invite a police officer or a fire fighter to a Junior Grange meeting to do a program on 911 calling for emergency help.

BILL OF RIGHTS
Research the Bill of Rights. Make a poster listing the Bill of Rights, find out when and why they were created and by whom. Choose one of the Bill of Rights articles, that you feel is the most important to you and explain why. Give an oral report and share your poster with your Junior Grange.
